Treatment Guidelines and Psychological Therapy

Longer Term Psychotherapy
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is my preferred mode of practice and treatment.
For patients suffering severe illness; recurrent major depressive disorder, developmental post traumatic stress disorder and significant attachment disorders, longer term therapy is often required. In these circumstances I use therapy informed by both attachment and psychodynamic theories in addition to psychotropic medication as required.

I will often work collaboratively with other mental health practitioners as required.
Shared Care
I can work with you to assist in the management of more difficult mental health problems. As I have chosen to restrict my practice to caring for mental illness there will be no changes to any medication that you have prescribed nor provision of prescriptions. If you so desire I can provide a detailed letter to you withadvice concerning psychotropics that might be advantageous, if appropriate.
Note, I do not prescribe benzodiazepines nor provide drug withdrawal services. Patients suffering from psychotic symptoms should be referred urgently to the local adult mental health team.
Single Visit Opinion
Access to local psychiatric services is becoming increasingly difficult and telehealth services often do not provide ready access in times of more urgent need. I am very happy to receive a referral from you to conduct an assessment with recommendations and return the patient to your care.
